The interest of university libraries in manuscripts has witnessed a significant development in recent years, despite the popularity of the printed book in the world, and the emergence of electronic printing on various digital media, but the interest in manuscripts is increasing day after day due to the artistic and aesthetic characteristics that distinguish it from all other library media. In addition to its historical value.
The developments taking place in the field of transferring, processing and disseminating information lead us to talk about the true fate of manuscripts, especially in light of the presence of electronic information sources.
Based on the importance of manuscripts in scientific and historical research, the library of Prince Abdul Qadir University of Islamic Sciences, and its experience in the field of using the automated system in processing the stock of its manuscripts, especially indexing, where they were stored and retrieved when needed, in addition to digitizing them in order to make them available to researchers via the Internet. .
Therefore, the experience of indexing and digitizing the manuscripts of the Prince Abdul Qadir University Library, the first nucleus, is considered among the pioneering experiments in the field of Arabic digital content, as digitization came as a means of preserving the Arab national heritage from extinction and disappearance, as well as placing all the balance of manuscripts on an electronic medium that helps the researcher view the manuscript.
On this basis, this scientific paper came to discuss the experience of indexing and digitizing the manuscripts of the library of Prince Abdul Qadir University of Islamic Sciences through local automated programs to benefit more from and preserve the original Arab national heritage.
