The need for ethics in the archive profession

Abstract

Professional conscience is a collective response as much as it is an individual watchdog, and its foundation is the constant aspiration for sincerity in one’s work and its mastery in a social environment. The morals and ethics of the profession are something that should be given priority over everything else, given that the group of professions in society is the tool that implements the goals and aspirations of the masses. This requires the inevitability of morals and ethics for these different professions. The archival profession is one of the oldest professions in society that relates to documents, which are considered the memory of peoples. That is why living nations work to preserve their documentary stock, manage it well and present it to the beneficiaries. For the role of the archivist to succeed, there must be a code of honor for the profession that defines the controls and limits of dealing with the archival document, the user, And professional colleagues. This is what will be discussed in this research paper.
