Abstract

This research deals with the topic of self-archiving, and in particular the practice of digital repositories in terms of definition, historical roots, goals, strategies, advantages, with reference to the most important initiatives and statements that called for it, and then concludes with the obstacles that stand in the way of researchers who wish to practice it. The best motivation for us to try to become familiar with and view all the information and knowledge related to the subject of self-archiving in digital repositories was that “many conferences are held annually at the global level on free access to scientific information and its various types, the number of which in 2008 reached about 60 conferences and workshops1.
