Abstract

The study aims at highlighting a global phenomenon that has become very common in recent years, which is known as the academic ranking of world universities, which have become the occupation of advanced ranksin which the dream of any university, whether modest or from the World-Class Universities, and the ranking of world universities based on their virtual scientific presence on the Internet(Webometrics), is the most famous. The study was divided into two main sections, the first of which investigates the definition of academic ranking of universities, their historical roots , purposes, types and their controlling, while the second section deals with the study of the Webometrics ranking of world universities, in terms of definition, objectives, institutions concerned, indicators adopted,data sources and the first Arab Universities to be ranked.
