Abstract

Accurate identification of researchers and their scientific output is crucial for all parties involved in scientific research (such as publishers, funders, and universities), as many processes like promotions, securing funding, publishing, and article review depend on this accuracy. However, accurately identifying authors and attributing their work remains challenging due to the proliferation of online journal articles. Difficulties include disambiguating similar names, pseudonyms, different alphabets, abbreviations, and changes in affiliations due to researcher mobility. To address these challenges, author identifiers have been developed. This study will detail their history, applications, and provide a comprehensive review of both Arabic and international digital identifiers.
