Characteristics of Intellectual Work Published in the Directory of Open Access Journals in the Field of Library and Information Science: A Bibliometric Study

Development in the electronic publishing media has been accompanied by a remarkable increase in digital scientific production. In the LIS profession, the number of scientific titles and publications has doubled because of the ease of publication, cost-effectiveness, distribution and accessibility. While at the same time promoting open access publishing.
The aim of this study is to address the open access journals in the field of library information science available in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) to identify this type of intellectual work and to indicate its importance to researchers and users .
The study uses bibliometric method to describe the open source journals disciplines and their publication languages. It focuses on the coefficient of influence, mid-life citation impact, author self-citation and the overlap between libraries field and other disciplines. Results of this study will be compared with a study carried out in 2012 to identify the extent of the development in open access journals publications.
