Library and information science: concept, origins, and development of its training in the Western and Arab world

This study represents the synthesis of concepts related to the specialty of library and information science, especially those related to the emergence of this science and its official academic accreditation in university institutions for nearly a century and a half, then examining its development in the Western and then Arab worlds, and its spread in Arab countries since the middle of the twentieth century. Starting with Egypt and passing through Algeria, it addressed the process of change in concepts and terminology related to the specialization, as well as the relationships that link it to various other sciences. The study also addressed the issue of training in library science by introducing the bodies responsible for training in library and information science and the role of library schools in the professional development of libraries and documentation and information specialists. .
