Abstract

Information technology is a group of activities and applications that facilitate, through electronic means, the processing, storage, retrieval, and transmission of information to beneficiaries in an automated manner. Its purpose is to exploit that information in a sound and rapid manner. There is no doubt that information technology in libraries and information centers has become one of the basic tools, and has become a necessity that must be resorted to in order to keep pace with the information age. The emergence of information and communication technologies, represented by computers, local and global information networks, and the Internet, led to the development of technical processes and information services in libraries.

This research deals with the reality of the use of information technology in Syrian private university libraries in terms of (computers, computerized indexes, automated systems, the Internet, databases, and networks, a proposed plan for establishing an information network for Syrian private university libraries), with the aim of identifying the available technological capabilities, Areas of use and applications in libraries.
