Abstract

The study aimed to identify open source software available for libraries and its various types, especially open source systems for library management, in addition to other software that can be used by specialists in the field of libraries. The study also aimed to develop a set of criteria that can be used to choose an open source system appropriate to the needs of libraries. Arabic by examining 13 open source automated systems for library management. The study relied on the survey approach to identify the systems currently available on the Internet. The study also relied on the analytical approach to arrive at a list of standards for evaluating these systems. The study reached a list of 115 basic standards that can be used in addition to the standards proposed by Randa Ibrahim’s study to evaluate commercial systems. In order to choose an appropriate and reliable open source system for managing Arab libraries.
