Abstract

In view of the importance and role of archives in preserving the collective memory and history of peoples and nations, governments are making every effort to make available archival all the human and material resources to institutions the treatment and the preservation of their holdings accordance with scientific standards.

This article deals with the case of archives of the colonial period in Algeria

taking into consideration the fact that the historical archives require special treatment and a content assessment to determine their value, and in this case the presence of archivists is a mandatory condition to enable and ensure the different categories of users (historians, researchers, teachers and students ...) better use of these documents.
