Abstract

The aim of the research is to identify the latest trends in cataloging the periodicals, to prepare a future vision of what the periodical catalog should be, to evaluate and analyze the bibliographic records of the approved periodicals, to identify the most searched fields of the periodicals. The researcher relied on the collection of research data on both a checklist to analyze and evaluate the periodical records adopted by the catalog and a questionnaire to guide the system's employees to identify the most important obstacles. They encountered the most important fields in which they searched for the periodicals under cataloging.
The most important differences between the cataloging of the periodicals according to the RDA standard and the Anglo-American rules are the substitution of fields with the use of the full term and the cancellation of abbreviations, the addition of subfields to existing main fields as well as Helwan University, Cairo University, Fayoum University and Benha University. A number of high quality recordings as well as a suggested model for a periodical bibliographic record according to the RDA standard. Through the future vision of the periodicals catalog of the consortium of Egyptian University Libraries, the identification of weaknesses and strength in journal records, And 022 - Abbreviated Title 210 - Key title 222 - Title and Statement of Responsibility 245 - Publication 260)
The most important fields in which the periodicals searched are cataloging, spelling mistakes and content errors whether writing error data or incomplete data from errors. The difficulty of identifying the basic data for cataloging the periodicals and the lack of sufficient knowledge of the rules of cataloging the periodicals, as well as the presence of the language barrier, especially with the foreign journals are the most important obstacles facing the catalogers in dealing with the periodicals. For training to raise the professionalism of the workers and the issuance of guidance manuals on a continuous basis to keep up with the latest developments in indexing standards, as well as the constant revision of the recordings duplicate (whether or deletion merger) and activate the subsystem to adjust the retaining future system.
